Financial Institution Minimizes Server Overhead and Gains Disaster Recovery with Help from Ideal Integrations

Ideal Integrations recently helped a local financial institution minimize their need for servers and in the process gave them a disaster recovery and business continuity solution. Beginning the process, the set of concerns was a common one; a difficult to manage server infrastructure with too many servers, many out of date and underpowered servers, a disaster recovery solution that was complex and took too much time to complete, and a limited budget to fix as much of it as possible.

Once this list of problems was brought to Ideal, our design engineers took on the process of finding an affordable solution that would provide them with solutions to these problems and more.

Combining the technologies of two of our premier partners, VMWare and Compellent, Ideal was able to put together a solution that reduced the quantity of server from over twenty to four, and provided a complete disaster recovery answer as well. With a Compellent Storage Area Network (SAN) at each of two locations, and two hardware servers at each location running VMWare Virtual Infrastructure Enterprise, the organization has its entire IT infrastructure running at the main location, with a complete copy of it running at a second location. If a disaster were to strike at either site, the entire organization can continue working with little or no downtime.

In addition, the IT infrastructure is now more scalable than ever. New servers and applications can be rolled out in hours instead of days and weeks, patches can be applied and servers can be upgraded without downtime or concern from IT staff, and management of the network takes less time, freeing up IT staff for more important project work. This entire solution was purchased and implemented without going over budget, and the end result is even better than was expected.
